Review of Lawson Equipment’s Super-Tough Ironwire High-Durability Shoe Laces

Nathan JarboeQuality Product Review

Lawson Kline at Lawson Equipment produces quality American made products.  A few years back I tried their Technora Toughlaces and loved them.   Cheap laces with frayed tips are a bummer for lacing up boots, and even worse for trying to thread through boot loops and roller hardware.  That’s why I like laces with steel tips, such as the ones from Lawson Equipment.  These are manly laces.

I got a new set of boots lately that contain laces and eyelets too narrow for the original beefy Technora Laces.  I asked Lawson if he could make laces which are thinner and which can be threaded through more dainty boot hardware.  His answer was the newer Ironwire laces, a yet-to-be released product as of March of 2021.

The thing I noticed first is that the laces are similar in size to the OEM laces which came on my Scarpa Kinesis Pro GTXs.

Left is the OEM, Right is the Ironwire Laces

The main reason I ordered them is so they would fit the lacing hardware on my newer boots.  The steel string tops fit perfectly.

Laces the right diameter

The original laces are decent, but fragile.

Here are what the original laces looked like: O.K. but wimpy.

The new Ironwire laces look good, come in many colors, and have metal ends, not paper or plastic or flimsy clear glue.

Side View. I ordered laces too short!

Laces On

My only regret is a goof up I made in length – I ordered too short.  I will get with Lawson Equipment to maybe do an exchange.

Thanks Lawson for great strings.  This is a product worth telling friends about.
